ALIDé, a regulated microfinance institution in Benin, offers savings, credit and non-financial services to unbanked populations, with a particular focus on women.
Benin faces a complex political and social context, marked by growing insecurity accentuated by the political-security crisis in its neighboring countries. This situation leads to major security challenges, including cross-border movements of armed groups and an increase in terrorist activities. As a result, the living conditions of local populations are directly impacted. In this situation, microfinance institutions are increasingly in demand to meet the growing needs of populations, especially in an inflationary environment.
Despite the government's efforts to promote economic growth and create employment opportunities, the unemployment rate remains high, especially among young people and women, and many workers are employed in informal jobs.
Founded in 2006, the Association for the Fight for the Promotion of Development Initiatives (ALIDé) has become a major player in this difficult context. Approved by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Benin, ALIDé's mission is to improve the living conditions of disadvantaged populations by offering them quality financial and non-financial services. Its history dates back to 1995, with the establishment of the Crédit Epargne Program initiated by the French NGO Development Initiative (ID).
The products and services offered by ALIDé mainly include savings collection, loan transactions and signature commitment transactions throughout the country. Particular attention is also paid to the management of the social performance of the institution, which allows it to better align its offer to the needs of the target population and to ensure personalized social support. The institution is 111% viable and is developing a new service for the distribution of solar equipment and economical homes.
